From the newsroom to the screen, Waseem Mirza has crafted a career spanning journalism and acting. As an award-winning presenter at BBC News, covering the East of England and Home Counties, Waseem honed his storytelling skills before pursuing his passion for acting at a renowned London drama school.

Acting Career

His transition to acting was marked by roles in Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman's Butler by DC Studios/Warner Bros., and the Golden Globes nominated Netflix drama The Diplomat, showcasing his versatility. In 2024, he completed a multi-episodic role in the Doctor Who sci-fi spin-off The War Between The Land And The Sea, set to premiere in the UK on the BBC in early December 2025, with a global release via Disney+ in 2026 (where available). In summer 2025, he made his tv soap debut in Emmerdale - one of Britain's longest running television soaps.

Film Work & Festivals

Waseem’s other projects include the BFI-funded short Yellow Bucket which premiered at the LFF 2025 and the critically acclaimed Blue Snakes, which has won over 40 awards on the international festival circuit so far.

Upcoming Projects

He's currently working with an award-winning team as the presenter of a new sci-tech factual entertainment documentary Word of Mouth, part-funded by BBC, British Film Institute the National Lottery and commissioned by the Science & Natural History Unit at the NFTS. Filmed across the EU from summer 2025, the timely film looks at artificial intelligence and it's impact across timezones - both language and culture. The film is due to premiere at the BFI in March 2026.
